Learning Content
The GDC has issued revised Scope of Practice guidance effective 1 November 2025 following extensive review. While it does not change the legal scope of the seven registrant groups, including dental technicians, it clarifies title boundaries, modernises the structure, and offers a clearer, more flexible framework for understanding professional responsibilities.
- Explain the purpose and structure of the GDC’s 2025 Scope update - Identify its impact on dental technicians’ roles, competence, and professional judgement - Apply principles on boundaries, teamwork, and safe practice to daily workflows - Evaluate how the guidance strengthens patient safety and accountability - Recognise when further training, referral, supervision, or indemnity is required.
Aims
To explore what has changed and why these changes matter by examining the drivers behind the revision, the impact on dental technicians' responsibilities, and how to apply the updated guidance in daily practice.
