WELCOME We have quite the event in-store at DTS22, with hours of educational content, exceptional speakers and a trade floor dedicated to all things dental technology. Regardless of your experience in the profession so far, your future ambitions, special interests, or role at your current laboratory, we will have something for you! It is always important to us that we carefully align the programme for DTS with the wider profession. For 2022, this has meant a spotlight on digital dentistry, with a brand-new theatre dedicated to discussing challenges and solutions in the field. The Digital Dentistry Accelerator Forum is definitely not one to miss, no matter how much digital technology you currently utilise. This is about paving the way for development, creating opportunities and widening access to the advantages of digital so that more dental labs can benefit. Not only

does this help dental businesses grow, but it also brings high-quality and streamlined dental care to more patients. Of course, part of the debate will be whether digital is for everyone and how those newer to the field might maximise their return on investment. We will have speakers presenting their own perspectives and sharing their own history with digital dentistry to provide a well-rounded experience. To further enrich the learning opportunities, the trade floor will host an array of the latest digital technologies – and many other

solutions – on the market for delegates to review first-hand. Product experts will be on hand to answer questions and provide demonstrations, as will colleagues who have utilised the solutions in their own labs. In fact, if you’re looking for recommendations or ideas from peers, DTS will be the perfect place to connect with dental technicians and lab owners from across the country. Don’t forget, you can also network with clients – new and existing – at the co-located British Dental Conference & Dentistry Show! Finally, I would like to thank all the professional associations, societies, media organisations and companies who have collaborated with us to help create the amazing event that will be DTS 2022. Your continued support is received with so much gratitude and we hope that you enjoy this chance to interact with the profession face-to-face once again! Check out the full programme and show highlights to plan your visit and ensure you don’t miss anything important to you. See you on 13-14 May at NEC, Birmingham!

We’re living in a technology world

WE’RE LIVING IN A TECHNOLOGY WORLD! Among the brand-new features at the Dental Technology Showcase 2022 will be the Digital Dentistry Accelerator Forum. This exciting theatre will provide a programme dedicated to all things digital, giving individuals and organisations a unique opportunity to come together to discuss the latest concepts, innovations and challenges in the field. There will be highly interactive sessions, as well as seminars delivered by an array of professionals leading the way in digital workflows for the advancement of dentistry as a whole.

Dr Douglas Watt, partner at Euston Place Dental Practice, will be presenting “An overview of digital workflows in general practice” as part of the new Digital Dentistry Accelerator Forum. About his session he says: “I think digital dentistry is important to get involved with now as it’s no longer ‘the future’ of dentistry but a current reality that improves outcomes for both patients and the dental team. “I hope that delegates attending my session will gain an understanding of how accessible and feasible digital dentistry is for daily workflows. I also hope delegates will take away some new knowledge of

digital workflows and how these can be utilised in all areas of dentistry. “I would encourage people to attend my session and the event in order to see what is possible with current technologies in dentistry and how these can make your working day easier and more enjoyable!” There are many ways in which dental technicians can utilise technological solutions to optimise their services, regardless of their area of expertise, experience or special interests. In some cases, it might also be beneficial to outsource certain services so you can extend your offerings to clients and patients. Béatrice Robichaud - Co-Founder and VP of Marketing & Customer Experience at Panthera Dental – will be one of several highlyesteemed speakers in the ‘I think digital DTS Lecture Theatre at dentistry is DTS 2022, presenting important to get “Masters of Milling”. involved with now as it’s no longer She comments: ‘the future’ of “Milling centres dentistry but a are everywhere and current reality.’ they offer many types DR DOUGLAS WATT of products. I hope they gain skills and confidence to effectively assess if a milling centre is responsible and uses the best equipment for the best outcomes, and make sure they get good value for their money. “This is my first time at the show and I aim to bring something never before heard or seen. I also always try to create fun and interactive content that delegates will remember and talk about once out of the lecture.” There will be all this and so much more at DTS this May. Several other highly-esteemed speakers, including Dr Gulshan Murgai, Stefan Goniszewski, David Claridge, Vanik KaufmannJinoian, James Green and others will be presenting inspiring sessions. Topics will be diverse and expansive, catering to the needs and interests of all dental technicians, clinical dental technicians and lab owners.

Don’t get left behind with digital

DON’T GET LEFT BEHIND WITH DIGITAL! Dr Gulshan Murgai is delivering his lecture, entitled “Vita – chairside and lab digital dentistry solutions”, reviewing the development of CAD/CAM technologies and the benefits available to today’s dental team. He says:

“Digital dentistry has been around for 30 years and yet the uptake in the UK is only around 10%. Patients are missing out and UK dental professionals are getting left behind by the rest of the world who have adopted this technology in much higher numbers. “During my session, the knowledge I impart will be from my day-to-day practice and so it will be the kind of data that can be acted upon by all colleagues if they choose to. I hope to help delegates make the decision as to whether they should be utilising more

digital dentistry. My session will open delegates’ minds to digital dentistry both at lab and clinical levels.” Commenting on why he would recommend DTS and the co-located British Dental Conference and Dentistry Show (BDCDS), Gulshan adds: “It’s great that the event is free to attend. There will be a great mix of clinical and technical colleagues in attendance and so I would encourage dentists to come along with their technicians for the best experience.”

Connecting profession and industry once again

CONNECTING PROFESSION AND INDUSTRY ONCE AGAIN Renowned for its diverse education, with exciting seminars, interactive discussions and hands-on workshops tailored to all members of the dental lab team, DTS is also an ideal platform to discover the latest innovations in the profession, with an extensive lab-dedicated exhibition. floor presenting an array of product manufacturers, technology developers, material suppliers and training providers.

DTS remains the flagship event of the Dental Laboratories Association (DLA), the professional body for lab owners in the UK. Their continued involvement in the programme and promotion of the event ensures both the relevance and quality of the education on offer, as well as the diversity of attendees for optimal networking opportunities. President of the DLA, Steve Campbell, comments: “It is my belief that it is of the utmost importance that as UK dental labs you keep up to date with the latest news, products and services on offer in the

12

profession. “One of the easiest ways of doing this annually is, of course, DTS. Hosting a range of CPD, all of the latest equipment and materials, and expert advice all available in one place, DTS is a massive saver both in terms of time and money. Not only this, but it means that when providing care and information to clients, you can be confident that your opinions and advice is based on the latest available information. “It’s also a great way to meet up with fellow DLA members, whether they be old friends or new ones in the making,

particularly after the past two years. Face to face meet ups at events like DTS are something we have all missed, and as well as being fantastic socially, they can also really add value to your business. I’ve received some amazing advice and tips from my peers over the years, and hopefully I’ve given some as well! “No matter why you are visiting DTS, I sincerely hope you enjoy the show. Come and visit the DLA team in the Association Membership Lounge to say hi!” The DLA will be just one of the professional bodies on hand at the show, with several others taking stands and presenting speakers in the various theatres to further enrich the learning for delegates. The Orthodontic Technicians’ Association (OTA), for example, supporting lectures in the Seminars theatre. Hear from their industry-leading speakers and meet the team themselves to find out more about what membership could mean for you. Of course, the trade floor will also host a spectrum of industry representatives who are just as keen to connect. Organisations in attendance will include 3Shape, Bracon, Carestream Dental, Den-Tech, GC UK, Ivoclar, DGShape, Schottlander, Shofu, Straumann Group, WHW and many more. Ensuring a fully inclusive experience, there will also be members of the press to interact with too. Poppy Stoddart, Editor of Dental Technologies Magazine, commented: “After a two-year break we’re looking forward to being back at DTS: I have enjoyed the previous DTS shows, and find that they’re a great way for us to meet with subscribers, chat with old friends and make new contacts. We’ve been busy rebranding the journal, and we hope delegates will appreciate our new style and logo. Drop by stand G10 at DTS to meet the team, browse our magazines and see what special offers we have in store for you this year!”

It will also cover new types of removable solutions that provide a great alternative to fixed implant bridges, as well as the advantages of individualised implant and prosthetic components for a wide range of cases. “As more and more dental implants have been placed every year, we have seen a corresponding increase in the number of complications experienced. It is important that dental professionals are aware of the different treatment options that are available for both fixed and removable implant reconstructions in order to provide each patient with the best treatment that will minimise possible complications. Some of the alternatives to conventional treatment protocols may help to overcome difficulties with implant positioning, as well as mechanical and biological issues. In this way, cutting-edge processes with CAD/CAM technologies could redefine the way the dental team approach cases of implant rehabilitation.” Aside from the DTS Lecture Theatre, further education will be delivered through additional theatres, offering a wealth of CPD for all members of the lab community. The trade floor will provide further opportunities for learning and networking, with product experts on hand to explain or demonstrate all the latest CAD/CAM and other digital technologies on the market. With show-only offers available and plenty of colleagues to speak to about utilising the various pieces of equipment, delegates will quickly see how digital solutions can help them propel their services and their businesses forward.

Completely free for delegates to attend, DTS 2022 is not an event you want to miss!

INTRODUCINGICREALOCKI SOLUTIONSI Continuing to innovate and help technicians to overcome common challenges in different cases, Createch Medical brings you Crealock Solutions. This is an innovative system designed to customise the implant connection for optimal treatment outcomes in a wide range of indications. Different options enable up to a very high divergence angle, facilitating a highly aesthetic treatment result, even when working in the anterior zone. Importantly, the parallelisation of the abutments facilitates the insertion of the denture, minimising the wear. Thanks to the parallel abutments, the solution becomes more stable and durable. It also boosts patients’ oral hygiene by allowing them to easily remove their prosthesis from the mouth for simple cleaning. This can also help them to maintain the health of the underlying gingiva, with easy access to the gumline for the effective removal of plaque and bacteria too. The resilient products feature a conical connection combined with intelligently designed retention inserts to encourage easy removal of the prosthesis. The transmucosal area enhances seating of the prosthesis on the abutments, while also optimising soft tissue management for superior healing and aesthetics. Why use Crealock Solutions? They have been created in response to specific challenges that the dental team face when working together to restore patients’ smile in complex cases, including: l Situations of high implant divergences l Patients with high vertical dimension and/or thick biotypes l Cases where implants are placed in a vestibular position What’s more the solutions support a fully digital workflow, enabling clinicians and their patients to take advantage of the many advantages this affords. Createch Medical provides further flexibility for the dental team with a customised planning service. This means you can outsource part of the process to save time and stress, while still delivering
